The Zonzamas Plus Car Lanzarote could not score points on its visit to Replasa Beti-Onak and fell by 32-23 at the Polideportivo Municipal Hermanos Indurain, in a match corresponding to matchday 21 of the Liga Guerreras Iberdrola. The Lanzarote team kept pace in the early stages, but ended up paying for the physical wear and tear and the offensive difficulties against a solid and very intense opponent in defense.
The match started with a high pace and maximum intensity. In the 5th minute, Beti-Onak was up 4-2 after an outside shot, but Brenda Roger responded immediately to keep Zonzamas in the game (4-3). The locals tried to press, although the batateras were not impressed and remained close on the scoreboard (8-5, min. 12). With character and using their offensive weapons, the team led by Juan José Rivera cut the lead to 8-6 in the 13th.
With 10-8 in the 17th minute, Rivera requested a timeout to adjust defensive errors through which the opponent was slipping. However, the worst offensive minutes for Zonzamas arrived. The attack got stuck and the team accumulated almost ten minutes without scoring. Beti-Onak took advantage of the moment to open a gap (12-8, min. 22). Alicia Robles sustained the team with a seven-meter save that prevented the lead from being even greater, but the offensive problems persisted and the score shot up to 14-8 in the 27th. An outside goal allowed to cut back (14-9) before the Navarrese requested a timeout in the 28th. The first act concluded with a clear 16-10.
The second half maintained the same script. Irene Botella put the 18-13 in the 35th, but the exchange of inaccuracies benefited the locals, more accurate in the final meters (22-15, min. 43). Zonzamas, with a rotation heavily conditioned by injuries and accumulating many minutes in the same players, began to feel the tiredness. To each attempt of visitor reaction, Beti-Onak responded with speed and effectiveness (24-18, min. 48).
In the final stretch, the Navarrese exploited the physical wear of the Lanzarote team to sign their best minutes in attack. The scoreboard marked 32-23 at 58 and the match no longer had more history. The final 32-23 reflected the local superiority in a clash in which Zonzamas competed while it had energy, but ended up overcome by the intensity and depth of bench of the Navarrese team.
Next week there will be a league break, a breather that will come at a good time for an exhausted team that needs to recover strength and players ahead of the decisive stretch of the season.
