The town of Altea, in Alicante, hosted the Spanish ILCA 7 Cup this past weekend, an Olympic class that brought together the great promises of national sailing. The Real Club Náutico de Arrecife was represented by the young Alonso Pérez Fernández, with the Lanzarote sailor successfully completing the nine scheduled races, finishing the competition in 25th place overall.
The Spanish ILCA 7 Cup was attended by 49 sailors, including Alonso Pérez from Lanzarote. The Real Club Náutico de Arrecife sailor arrived at the national event after recently participating in the Snipe European Championship with Rafael Lasso, held in Portugal, and having in his record the Spanish ILCA 4 Cup and the Canary Islands ILCA 6 Championship in the under 19 category, among other successes.
Alonso Pérez's participation in the Spanish ILCA 7 Cup did not start well, committing two offsides in the first two races on Friday, a circumstance that would penalize him when it came to fighting for the top positions. Alonso recovered from the moral blow, closing Friday with a 16th place in the third race.
Alonso Pérez's best result would come in the third race on Saturday, entering the finish line in second place. And on Sunday, in the three races held, he remained among the top ten classified throughout the race course, results that allowed him to continue advancing positions in the general classification of the Spanish ILCA 7 Championship.
The president of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, Julio Romero, and the Board of Directors, would like to congratulate Alonso Pérez for the magnificent performance this past weekend in the bay of Altea, in Alicante, placing himself among the best national sailors. Julio Romero states that "this is a new experience that will help Alonso continue to grow in the world of sailing, being one of the most promising young people in our club."
