La Caleta de Famara witnessed the ninth edition of the Lanzarote Famara Total, an event that brought together more than 600 athletes in various trail running events. The day started early, with the 50-kilometer runners starting at 7 in the morning, followed shortly after by the 25-kilometer runners. Before the start of the rest of the competitors, a lively zumba session brought everyone together.
At 8:30 a.m., the 15-kilometer, 7.5-kilometer, and hiking competitions started. Throughout the morning, the constant flow of runners crossing the finish line allowed the podiums of each category to be completed.
The 50-kilometer race, considered the toughest in the nine years of the event, had 79 registered participants, of which 64 started and 22 did not achieve the final goal in official time. The morning mist and subsequent heat, along with the technical areas, especially the sand of Famara Beach, made this an extremely challenging test, with many athletes entering above the 7-hour test, the maximum time stipulated by the organization.
Alejandro Mayor (CD Oso Canarias Cultural Vertical) from Gran Canaria was proclaimed the winner with a time of 4:26'21'', followed by Sergio Machín (CD Hilera) at 1'5'' and Ione Guerra (Arista Pro Team) with a final time of 4:49'05''.
In the women's category, Yasmina Castro (CD Oso Canarias Cultural Vertical) was the first to reach the finish line with 5:34'16'', followed by Graciela Acosta (Carphial Teror Trail) and Luz María Martín (Equipo Montaña Guardia Civil) with times of 6:23'28'' and 6:32'07'', respectively.
Winners of the other modalities
In the 25-kilometer race, Yoel de Paz (Wild Trail Proyect) and Estela Guerra (Arista Pro Team) dominated with times of 1:54'42'' and 2:36'56'' respectively. Álvaro Escuela (Arista Pro Team) and Jose Antonio Hernández (CD Obstáculos La Oliva) completed the men's podium, while Aurora López (Club Montaña Tralhileros) and Ildiko Csilla Biró (JCH Running) did the same in the women's category.
The 15-kilometer modality crowned Rayco Hernández and Auxibel Vega (Stone) with times of 1:20'17'' and 1:56'54'' respectively. Unai Mintegui (Idiazabal Aseplan) and Esteban García (CD Gallotia) completed the men's podium with 1:22'52'' and 1:23'05'', while Eva Guirado (Triyaiza) and Celina Sophie did so in the women's category with 2:06'34'' and 2:07'02''.
And in the 7.5-kilometer distance, Rosa Fontes (Cavelanz) from Lanzarote won with a time of 43'02'', followed by María José Pina (Todo por un sueño) and Aurora García (San Isidro Rugby Club) with times of 44'01'' and 44'40'', respectively. In the men's category, Hugo Pérez (EAMJ Playas de Jandía) won with 32'54'', followed by Diego López (CD Travertoro) and Andrés de León (JCH Running) with 33'03'' and 34'00''.
The awards ceremony culminated with the awarding of the final winners, in the presence of the mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, who was accompanied by councilors Alejandro Ramírez, Rita Hernández, Eugenio Robayna and Ginés González. The Lanzarote Famara Total says goodbye until next year, when it celebrates its first decade of life, consolidating itself as a key event in the national mountain race calendar.
The ninth edition of the Famara Total has been organized by the Teguise City Council, with the execution of Cronoline Eventos, and has had the collaboration of Promotur of the Government of the Canary Islands, Cabildo de Lanzarote, Lanzarote Sport Destination, Art, Culture and Tourism Centers of Lanzarote (CACT) and Insular Sports Service.
