Aduén Merino Achieves Three Victories in Valencia

Aduén Merino, a young man from Arrecife, participated this past weekend in the Spanish Championship of Young Paralympic Promises in Athletics, with the athlete from ADAL Lanzarote shining brightly and achieving victory in the three events in which he participated in the event held in Valencia.

The mayor of Arrecife, Ástrid Pérez, joins in the congratulations to this young resident of Arrecife for his new achievements in athletics. In a recent reception at the mayor's office, the mayoress congratulated him on "Aduén Merino's important sporting career, where he is also demonstrating that it is possible to move forward even with disabilities. Aduén and his Adal athletics club have the financial support of the Arrecife City Council."

The Councilor for Sports of the Arrecife City Council, Roy González, wanted to congratulate "Aduén Merino for the extraordinary performance he had this past weekend at the Turia Athletics Stadium" and recalls that "the Arrecife athlete participated in the T12/F12 category, achieving victory in the three events in which he took part";

"Aduén Merino is a great source of pride for the sport of our city, demonstrating once again a great overcoming spirit and placing himself among the most promising athletes in Spanish Paralympic sport despite his young age," comments the Arrecife councillor on the sporting achievements of the ADAL Lanzarote athlete.

He achieved victory in the 80 and 1,000 meter races, and in the long jump, shattering his personal bests of the season throughout the weekend. In the 80 meter race he clocked a time of 12.05 seconds and in the 1,000 meter race he stopped the clock at 03:29.10. In addition, in the long jump, with a mark of 4.24 meters, he improved his previous record by 44 centimeters.

Recently, Aduén Merino broke the Spanish record for the 3,000 meter race in the under-14 category, inscribing his name at the national level. An athlete who suffers from a visual impairment due to the horizontal nystagmus disease that causes him partial blindness and with a visual acuity of only 10%.
