The first vicissitude that life subjects us to is intrinsically linked to chance, to the luck that the set of genes that make us human prospers in one part of the world or another. Being born in a specific country and social stratum irrevocably marks people's destiny, and in a large part of the world, chance condemns them to misery.
Daily we see millions and millions of people across the length and breadth of the planet fleeing the misery to which chance has individually condemned them: wars, hunger, poverty, climate change force millions of people to abandon their homes and families in the desperation of achieving a dream that will bring them peace and security. And in this flight, struggle, and constant desperation to survive, a handful of them manage to reach a country that can offer them an opportunity.
They arrive with their misery, and the miserable appear, willing to do anything to win an election. They sow hatred, racism, and xenophobia, generate coexistence problems, and inflame the population's spirits by taking advantage of others' misfortune.
It is not chance, it is choice.
These days in Ceuta and the rest of the country, we are seeing miserable people taking advantage of misery.
Ceuta has never been alone. From July 30, when 72,000 people entered, to today, when approximately 5,000 remain, Ceuta has never been alone. Faced with the migratory crisis it has suffered, the State has been by its side, responding to an unprecedented situation.
Now, a month later, coinciding with the end of the summer holidays, leaders of Coalición Canaria are joining a campaign orchestrated by the Partido Popular, thus contributing to swelling the ranks of the miserable.
Who leaves Ceuta alone is the Partido Popular with its Autonomous Communities, refusing to take in children, refusing to provide aid, refusing to comply with the law. They did the same in the Canary Islands. Meanwhile, Coalición Canaria, incapable of standing up at the time and extending a hand now, hides its false nationalism by wrapping itself in the Canary flag to disguise its condition as a branch of the Partido Popular.
Ceuta needs support, like that it is receiving from the State, not to be used as an excuse for the miserable policies of the right: the Spanish and the Canarian.
