I owe it to the unfortunate concurrence of an unusual tropical storm, strayed from its usual Caribbean haunts, and to the more than questionable precariousness of means and lack of foresight of an electric power supply company, to have returned for many night hours - in addition to other extremely uncomfortable and costly daytime domestic contingencies - to the already distant times of an adolescence eager to travel worlds and adventures that the circumstances of those fateful years
of penury of means and freedoms forced to seek in the reading of the few books and colors then available.
This incursion into the magical worlds enclosed in those pages was carried out with the needy help of candle ends and hidden from paternal surveillance. The superfluous expenditure of electrical energy was a
difficult obstacle to overcome for the economies and means of the time. They were times of grayness and narrowness, today happily perished, but temporarily resurrected by the work and grace of a temporary and the damage caused by it in some energy transport lines that I imagine, in view of what happened, somewhat obsolescent.
Our society is already sailing in franchise through the 21st century, but it seems that we are in a cheap island, which some politicians, perhaps in an excess of unfounded optimism, have defined as
member of a transinsular axis and intercontinental platform.
Many coats of arms seem to me those for the current precariousness of means and little capacity to respond to the onslaughts of unleashed nature whose terrible claws we have had full presence in just three years. Many things were taken ahead by the condemned little storm "Delta", including an irreparable human life and the symbolic Finger of God. It is therefore mandatory the immediate appearance of the cause-effect relationship: the staff is already beginning to get irritated by flagrant ineptitude and inadmissible neglect. I am sure that in writing these lines I echo the just indignation of hundreds of thousands of people who have
gone through a true ordeal from the sunset of last November 28 - authentic dies irae - to date. Less opportunistic verbiage, get to work and let each stick hold its candle, that 2007 is getting closer and closer.
