The Dictionary of the Real Academia Española defines cachucha in its second meaning as «Kind of cap», that is, as a specific type of garment used to cover the head, which is made especially of fabric, leather or knit and that has a visor. In the Canary Islands, however, this word is used to refer, in a derogatory way, to any type of hat. In the eastern islands of our Community, it also refers to a type of beret or bilbaína used in the Islands.
In America, according to the Diccionario de americanismos of the Real Academia Española and the Asociación de Academias de la Lengua Española (ASALE), cachucha is used in several countries with the meaning of «Cloth cap with visor».
