The new centers of Art, Culture and Tourism of Ángel Vázquez

The formation Unidos por Lanzarote sent a press release criticizing the absurdity that the sponsorship or collaboration, or whatever they want to call it in Ángel Vázquez's hometown, O Carballiño, has been, where the CACT counselor acknowledges that it was with a bag of potatoes (6 Kg), a granito cheese (6Kg) and a pisco of wine. Poor us, we thought it was an isolated action and nothing could be further from the truth. And it is that, it seems that Ángel Vázquez has turned Manrique's artistic and spatial heritage into "Os novos centriños de Arte, Cultura e Turismo”.

Since that press release was made public, many have turned to our formation to denounce not one action, but a terrible attitude. And it is that since the arrival of the man from Carballiño (born in O Carballiño, Galicia), a systematic persecution has begun against everything that is from Lanzarote, pushing it aside. This is what they have told us these days, prioritizing products from other places. According to what they tell us, the beer made in Lanzarote, artisanal beer, has been replaced by a well-known Galician brand. The octopuses are bought, guess where…? Yes, in Galicia. And the chefs who come to teach how to cook them are from O Carballiño. Lanzarote wine has been displaced in favor of wines from the peninsula… and so on with countless cases. It was even considered to change the coffee for a Galician one, but, in that case, the political leadership intervened, preventing it (the coffee from Las Palmas is protected, but not the beer or wine from Lanzarote).

We have seen, astonished, how the air conditioning in Timanfaya does not work, after spending more than half a million euros. Where did the installing company come from, we ask ourselves? If we add to this the squandering of millions of euros in absurd promotions, it is very possible that we are witnessing the birth of something: Os novos centriños so that Ángel Vázquez feels at home.

That Vázquez wants to do all this is very bad, but that they allow it is worse. The CACT must disseminate the culture and product that emanates from the sweat of the land in which they are located, whenever possible. Bringing a lamentable character who is ashamed of our island is serious, putting him in that position, much more serious still, but keeping him is a tragedy.
