Open letter to solidarity

This Saturday, December 15, our party will hold a food drive to benefit the Lanzarote Red Cross and the more than 6,000 families that its volunteers care for and protect every day of the year, not only on sensitive dates like these.

It is not the first time that the men and women who make up this political group have embarked on an activity like this, although we are doing it for the first time this year as a political formation.

From the Socialist Group for Lanzarote, we understand that solidarity must be a constant in our society during the 365 days of the year, and not only during endearing holidays such as Christmas. But it is no less true that it is at times of the year like these when we tend to remember all our neighbors, relatives and even direct or indirect family members who are having a harder time.

The people of Lanzarote have demonstrated a historical sensitivity and solidarity with the most disadvantaged and it is something that we should feel very proud of, and even more so when this solidarity is demonstrated on occasions when our institutions, the main guarantors and those responsible for citizen welfare, turn their backs on those who need it most.

That is why the collaboration of all citizens in a call for solidarity like the one we are making from the Socialist Group for Lanzarote for this coming Saturday is even more valuable.

We must demonstrate that above politicians and institutions are the people, the citizens, children and adults, the families, our neighbors, our relatives and friends.

I want to thank on behalf of ASL the willingness shown by the SCRD Torrelavega whose board, headed by its President, Don Edmundo de la Hoz, did not hesitate at any time to give up its facilities to host this activity under the conviction that among all of us we will carry out a work of social and solidarity nature, under the umbrella of sensitivity, solidarity and the good heart of all the people of Lanzarote.

We only want to be a link, a vehicle through which our people demonstrate once again their solidarity and contribute what is in their power so that, as stated in the slogan of the campaign, this Christmas is "dignified for everyone".

We are waiting for you on Saturday from twelve o'clock in Torrelavega.

THANK YOU

By José Montelongo, Socialist Group for Lanzarote
