Two terrible news have hit us during these last days, both related, once again, to sexist violence. The court of first instance of Palma del Condado, Huelva, filed on December 14 the investigation into the complaint of harassment and sexual abuse filed by four Moroccan seasonal workers, one of them pregnant.
The women's lawyers requested their regularization due to exceptional circumstances, but the General Sub-Directorate of Immigration has not yet responded to this request. In fact, the seasonal workers, with young children in their cities of origin, stated that their intention was not to reside in Spain, but to stay until they won the case so as not to be rejected by their families. However, the judge's file responds to the request of the lawyer of the investigated businessman, who described the complaint of the seasonal workers as a "maneuver" to avoid their return to Morocco once the strawberry season was over.
Once again, the victim is the one who receives all the accusations and suspicions. It is the victim who is singled out as someone who wants to benefit from something in this very hard process.
In addition to the previous case, we have learned of a new murder of a woman. This is Laura Luelmo, a teacher from Zamora who was in El Campillo, province of Huelva, and who disappeared on December 12. The main suspect in this murder is a man with a long history of violence against women.
From the General Confederation of Labor we condemn all sexist attitudes. Not only the execrable aggressors and murderers, but also those who, through their complicity, favor that this scourge persists in our society. Now that there are those who advocate that the law against sexist violence be repealed, now more than ever we raise our voice to shout very loudly.
