Politics, when it deviates from its true vocation of service, tends to become a distant echo for the citizenry. In Lanzarote and La Graciosa, this distancing has deeply affected a broad sector of the population, tired of sterile dynamics and of not seeing themselves reflected in those who sit in the seats. That is why the scenario that opens up before next November 29 is not just another electoral appointment; it is an opportunity for real change born from generosity and understanding.
The confluence achieved by Coalición Canaria, Compromiso por Haría, the Movimiento Renovador de Tinajo, and Yaiza Siempre, is not a simple pact of acronyms, but a palpable demonstration of broad-mindedness and a solid alternative aimed at uniting the sentiment of our islands.
What is at stake in this appointment with the polls is of immense significance, and it goes beyond traditional ideological labels.
This is not about boasting of being more left-wing or more right-wing; that is a distraction that no longer serves our people. What we are playing for on November 29 is something much deeper: to be or not to be, to be present or not to be considered by the state parties, whatever their color. At 2000 kilometers away, that seat with the name of Lanzarote and La Graciosa deserves to be occupied by someone who keeps in mind the real problems and needs of the families here. Someone who at all times speaks of our island reality, 100% Canarian obedience, because when decisions are made in offices in Madrid, Lanzarote and La Graciosa tend to get diluted in the directives of the large national blocs.
This call is about common sense and a firm, unwavering defense of what is ours. Only this candidacy of unity connects with that island outcry that demands respect, autonomy, and real attention to its historical needs.
At the heart of this alliance of unity for the Senate stands a figure who perfectly embodies the spirit of this project: Daisy Villalba. Without affiliation to any of the formations she will represent. Her designation as the figurehead of this candidacy is not accidental, but a natural recognition of a life and professional trajectory marked by dedication, empathy, and rigor in the social sphere. She does not come here to learn how the administration works or to discover the realities of our people; she knows them from the front lines of daily life.
As a civil servant of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, she has carried out an impeccable job in sectors of maximum sensitivity, leaving a profound mark on social work with minors and in the area of disability. We are talking about a professional who has managed complex realities with extraordinary sensitivity, restoring dignity to families and becoming the voice of those who are often not heard.
The Senate needs profiles like Daisy Villalba's. The Upper House should not be a political retirement home or a sinkhole for state vote disciplines, but the place where citizens' rights are defended with the technical knowledge of someone who has been in charge of public services and the social axis. Her values—constancy, professionalism, a vocation for helping, and closeness—are the engine that this collective project needs to connect with the people more than ever.
This candidacy of unity represents that necessary breath of fresh air. It is the union of different municipal and insular sensibilities that have known how to prioritize the well-being of Lanzarote and La Graciosa over partisan interests. With Daisy Villalba at the helm, the social axis is not an electoral promise, but a reality guaranteed by her own life story.
On November 29, we have the opportunity to choose a representation that truly looks us in the eye, understands us, and puts common sense and the future of our islands of Lanzarote and La Graciosa first.
