Being a woman in the Civil Guard is like working in quicksand

We know that being a woman in the Civil Guard is like working in quicksand, where you sink if your work doesn't please the superior order, and if, in fulfilling your duty, you highlight the passivity with which the bodies and administrations obliged to guarantee respect for the Environment in Lanzarote have been acting until that date. It is in these sands that SEPRONA sergeant Gloria Moreno carries out her work, which has served to demonstrate that the hunting of shearwaters in Alegranza was an elitist practice consented to by those who have to prevent the mass massacres of these animals.

The LANZAROTE FORUM AGAINST GENDER VIOLENCE AND THE FEMINIST PLATFORM MARCH 8 LANZAROTE is not satisfied with publicly supporting Sergeant Gloria Moreno in recognition of the workplace harassment she suffers from the Civil Guard commanders and colleagues of the SEPRONA of Lanzarote, but also demanding that she be incorporated and that she be respected and supported in the exercise of her functions. The chain of complaints and sanctions imposed, most of them won, expired or, as in the last case, in which the complainant who was being investigated by the sergeant withdrew his complaint in court and the judge has issued a dismissal order, while for that same accusation in an act that we describe as patriarchal, sexist and loaded with misogyny, the colonel of the Civil Guard command in Gran Canaria, Ricardo Arranz, writes to the veterinarian to apologize for the sergeant's actions and suspends her from employment and salary without prior hearing to be able to have the right to defend herself, against an accusation that turned out to be false.

The sergeant is suspended from employment and salary for 3 months for a complaint that has been withdrawn in the courts by the accuser himself, while she remains suspended, without the right to receive her full salary and without the right to exercise her work for the complaint -which turned out to be false from a public worker-. And it is this colonel who, together with the captain and head of the SEPRONA in the division of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Germán García, have opened five disciplinary proceedings against her in the last eight months, which they will surely try to continue if we do not prevent it. To this courageous act of putting a stop to the illegal hunting of protected birds, for which the sergeant has been decorated by several associations, is added her involvement in preventing and punishing animal abuse in Lanzarote, working closely with animal protection associations. It is in the development of her functions of guaranteeing respect for animal life where her superiors find the means for their desire to sanction her repeatedly in order to get her to leave her job as animal respect and management of the Arrecife municipal kennel are not compatible. .

For her work, for being a woman and also brave, we support her unconditionally and demand that she be reinstated to work, that the continuation of sanctions by her superiors cease and that she be guaranteed a healthy work environment. We join the outcry of 134,000 citizens who have asked for justice for Gloria on the Change. Org platform and we demand, together with the platform "Justice for Gloria" formed by the Canarian Ecologist Federation Ben Magec-Ecologistas en Acción, El Guincho Ecologistas en Acción de Lanzarote, Agonane Ecologistas en Acción de Fuerteventura, Turcón Ecologistas en Acción de Gran Canarias, The Neighborhood Association Los Mahos de la Degollada, of Lanzarote, Canarian Federation of Associations for the Protection of Animals and Plants (FECAPAP), The Association for the Defense of Los Doggi del Sur, The Maho Village Cultural Association, The Canarian Solidarity Network Against Animal Abuse, Professionals for Animal Defense (PRODA), International Repudiation Against Animal Abuse (RICMA), No to Hunting Platform (NAC), etc., and we demand respect for her work functions because we know what happens when we remain in quicksand for a long time. To avoid the sinking of this worker in the public service in defense of the environment, we pronounce loudly our unconditional support because we know that it is this social tide that guarantees that Gloria Moreno works on solid ground, since the Ministry of the Interior is taking time to do so. That solid ground that Gloria abandoned to reach Alegranza and surprise the group of people who were committing crimes by eating shearwaters, as they had been doing in previous years without anyone daring to stop this outrage before.

THE LANZAROTE FORUM AGAINST GENDER VIOLENCE AND THE FEMINIST PLATFORM MARCH 8 OF LANZAROTE understands and affirms that Gloria Moreno, the Sergeant Chief of Seprona in Lanzarote, has not committed any crime or irregularity. The crime and irregularities for her superiors is being a woman, honest, professional, responsible with her work and exercising her functions of defense of the Environment and the fight against animal abuse.
