Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista (NC-BC) celebrated this Saturday the II Island-Home Convention of Lanzarote and La Graciosa at the Casa de la Juventud in Arrecife, a meeting that served to renew the organization's leadership bodies on both islands, as well as to set the political roadmap for the next electoral cycle.

The Convention was attended by the various local spokespersons of NC-BC, as well as the president of the national bodies, Natalia Santana; the national organization secretary, Ayoze Corujo; and the general secretary, Luis Campos.

During the day, the Tagoror-Insular Assembly and the Sábor-Insular Executive were renewed. Belén Machín was elected president of the insular bodies, while Yoné Caraballo will assume the responsibility of insular secretary of NC-BC in Lanzarote and La Graciosa.

Caraballo, candidate for the Cabildo of Lanzarote

It was precisely Caraballo who made the most relevant political announcement of the Convention by communicating his decision to lead the NC-BC candidacy for the Cabildo of Lanzarote in the May 2027 elections.

In his speech, he stated that the objective of this project will be to “Recover Lanzarote," a task that, he assured, involves returning prominence to Lanzarote society in the face of a model that, in his opinion, has been displacing it from fundamental decisions about the island's future.

Caraballo defended the need to regain control over strategic issues such as sustainability, housing, water, land management, and public services, proposing a profound change in the priorities of the insular institution.

In terms of tourism, he was particularly forceful in stating that, "if he becomes president of the Cabildo, there will not be a single more tourist bed in Lanzarote.” To this end, he announced his commitment to promoting a moratorium to curb unlimited development and prioritize the quality of life of the resident population over uncontrolled growth.

Regarding the housing access crisis, he defended the need to intervene in the market to protect Lanzarote families. In this regard, he proposed capping rental prices and "taxing to death" housing speculators while thousands of people find it increasingly difficult to access a home.

Another of the central proposals of his speech was the recovery of a fully public integral water cycle managed directly by the Cabildo de Lanzarote, with the aim of guaranteeing an efficient, transparent service at the service of the general interest.

Caraballo concluded his speech with a firm defense of public healthcare, showing his support for the massive demonstration held last week in defense of the Insular Hospital and against what he described as the progressive dismantling of public healthcare on the island. "Recovering Lanzarote also means defending strong, quality public services for all citizens," he stated.

The II Isla-Hogar Convention concluded with the membership's support for the new insular team and with the organization's commitment to face a new stage focused on building a political alternative for Lanzarote and La Graciosa for the 2027 electoral cycle.
