Yonathan de León has requested that the reinforcement at the Border Inspection Post in Los Mármoles be permanent. The mayor has requested the Port Authority of Las Palmas (APL) to monitor the dispatch of goods and the time it takes to allow containers to leave through the Border Inspection Point located in Los Mármoles.
The mayor, who is a member of the Board of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, conveyed at the meeting of the Board of the APL, which took place last Thursday, his concern about the blockades that the commercial and business sector of the island denounces so that their goods can pass the mandatory PIF clearances in reasonable times.
He conveyed this request to the Port Authority, an entity that does not have direct responsibility in the PIF but can know in detail the times that the goods remain in the port area of Arrecife to be dispatched and pass the phytosanitary controls.
The Government Delegation in the Canary Islands has recently announced that as of December, it will be reinforced with an official. A reinforcement that will only be temporary in view of the Christmas season.
The mayor wants to know in detail those times, to request the Ministry that this personnel can be assigned permanently in the PIF of the Port of Los Mármoles. The PIF depends hierarchically on the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.
The external trade of plants is subject to phytosanitary control at the border. This control is carried out at border control posts (BCPs) or at places designated by a Member State for the performance of official controls. Phytosanitary controls on import will be carried out at the border control posts of first arrival in the EU or at other authorized control points.
