The Yaiza City Council paid just over 95,000 euros in transport aid to university and higher education students this Friday, corresponding to the 2023 - 2024 academic year. A total of 120 young students from Yaiza who are studying inside and outside of Lanzarote have benefited, boys and girls who submitted the required documentation in the municipal call in a timely manner, according to the Councilor for Education, Silvia Santana.
The majority, 99 students, are young people who are pursuing university education outside of Lanzarote, who receive 900 euros each, 150 euros more than the previous year. The Administration also considers an increase for university studies on the Island, non-face-to-face or online, in this case 8 young people, who now receive 350 euros from 300 euros, and higher education outside of Lanzarote, 5 students, who receive 350 euros from 250 euros. The 8 higher education students in educational centers in Lanzarote receive 250 euros each, the same amount as the previous call.
Óscar Noda declares that "we know that in terms of aid to studies, any amount is insufficient. The families of boys and girls make an enormous effort to cover tuition, maintenance and other expenses, but in any case our intention is to progressively increase the aid per student, as we have been doing during the last years."
