The Yaiza Town Council proceeded this Tuesday to pay the transport grants for students of the municipality who have pursued university studies, both inside and outside the Island, or higher education during the 2020-2021 academic year in public centers. In total, 73,0000 euros have been distributed among a total of 120 beneficiaries.
From the Consistory they point out that the amounts of the aid received "vary depending on the studies and the place where they have been carried out", the most substantial being those destined for university students who have carried them out outside of Lanzarote, "at a rate of 650 euros per student with a total of 107 beneficiaries". For its part, of the students who enrolled in universities in Lanzarote last school year, "4 applications have been approved and will receive 300 euros each." Finally, 9 students will receive "250 euros for completing higher education studies."
From the City Council they point out that only 11 applications out of a total of 131 submitted have been excluded "for not complying with the rules or not having submitted all the required documentation in the time and manner established in the rules."
The Councilor for Education, Silvia Santana, recalls that "in these complicated times we wanted to increase the amounts to help the families of the municipality a little more." Specifically, they point out from the Consistory that the aid to university students outside of Lanzarote has been increased by 150 euros and by 50 euros to those who are trained on the Island, regardless of whether they do so at the University or are higher education students.
