The Yaiza City Council paid nearly 10,000 euros in aid to individual athletes from the municipality last week as part of the call for participation in official competitions during 2024. In total, six athletes from different disciplines benefited from these grants, with amounts ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 euros per athlete.

The Administration, presided over by Óscar Noda, thus maintains its commitment to promoting sport through a line of aid aimed at facilitating the preparation and participation of individual athletes from the municipality in official competitions. The grants allow for the coverage of various expenses associated with sports activities, including licenses and federation fees, acquisition of sports equipment, medical assistance and physiotherapy treatments, as well as travel.

The mayor highlights that “this aid seeks to lend a hand to our athletes so that they can compete in better conditions and develop their careers with greater guarantees. We want to support the talent that exists in the municipality and encourage our neighbors to compete on equal opportunities.”

For his part, the Councilor for Sports, Ángel Lago, emphasizes that “practicing sports requires an ever-increasing economic effort from families and athletes themselves. With this aid, we contribute to alleviating some of these costs and continue to bet on the growth of athletes from different modalities who represent Yaiza both on and off Lanzarote.”

More lines of aid

These grants are in addition to the significant economic effort that the Institution has been making in favor of sports in the municipality. Last May, Yaiza paid 89,000 euros corresponding to the first payment of aid for grassroots sports, intended for entities linked to the operation of Municipal Interest Sports Initiation Schools, thus reaffirming its support for young talent and the promotion of physical activity from an early age.

The City Council also reminds the sports clubs that are beneficiaries of these grants that during the first ten days of July they must submit the required documentation to proceed with the payment of the aid corresponding to the second period of the current season.

And also in May, Yaiza deposited 20,000 euros to the five Latin sailing clubs in the municipality, whose boats compete regularly in island and regional events, although participation in tournaments is only one of the evaluation criteria for granting subsidies, since the Administration also values the carrying out of training and outreach activities especially aimed at the youth sector.
