Faced with the accumulation of plastic bags and gloves for single use around supermarkets, especially in Playa Blanca, the Yaiza City Council has requested in writing the adoption of “measures” to prevent these light waste items from flying due to the intensity of the wind and ending up in green areas, ravines, and public roads, with the possibility of them even reaching the sea.

The mayor, Óscar Noda, who signed the request, thanks the stores in advance for their commitment and citizen collaboration: “The managers of large retail stores have always shown themselves willing to help keep their surroundings clean, so we trust that they can place bins with heavy lids on their facades and parking areas that prevent plastic from flying away, or any other complementary action they deem appropriate to implement.”

The Administration also considers the cooperation of consumers “essential” with a routine as simple as not leaving bags and gloves in shopping carts, as this waste deposited in the carts is also at the mercy of the wind's force.
