The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, sent a letter to the public business entity Puertos Canarios, manager of the port of Playa Blanca, requesting its intervention to complete and improve the signage of the southern installation in view of the complaints from users "due to the lack of orientation both in the parking lot and in the terminal and boarding operations area."
According to the Yaiza City Council in a statement, this request was previously transferred to Puertos Canarios, recalling the high volume of passengers, merchandise and vehicles that the port moves and the investment of more than 40 million euros that the expansion work involved.
Óscar Noda details "the doubts raised by users of the shipping companies who do not find adequate indications to go with their vehicles to the ticket sales offices, as well as to their respective waiting places, prior to boarding operations."
The mayor has reported that the complaints from users are repetitive: "It is difficult to find the way to go independently to the vehicle waiting lines before getting on the ship and travelers have to ask locals, security, taxi drivers or another person who can offer information."
Accessibility demand
The mayor took advantage of sending the letter to also demand "the commitment acquired by Puertos Canarios to create an access ramp for people with reduced mobility that facilitates the transfer from the callao beach near the port to the promenade, through which people who disembark go to the center of Playa Blanca." This alternative must be supported by a technical project that the City Council reiterates is in a position to provide.
Offer for cruise passengers
On the other hand, Óscar Noda informs the population and local businesses that the Institution updates the municipal report with the tourist attractions of Yaiza and the wide range of leisure and services that the south of Lanzarote is able to offer to cruise tourism. Óscar Noda will send this week the detailed information so that Puertos Canarios can use it in the marketing strategy of the port. Places of tourist interest for visitors, cafeterias, supermarkets, bars, restaurants and excursions, as well as pharmacies, laundries and souvenir shops, among others, are part of this catalog.
