The Yaiza City Council will request an urgent meeting with the General Directorate of the Coast and the Sea, dependent on the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, to ascertain the scope of the works being carried out on El Golfo beach, where the removal of the access staircase is planned.

The mayor, Óscar Noda, regrets that the City Council has not received any prior communication about this intervention. Furthermore, he considers that the situation is "a consequence of the lack of response from the Environment Area of the Cabildo de Lanzarote to repeated municipal requests to repair this infrastructure, without the necessary actions having been carried out to date."

According to information gathered by the City Council, the works are part of an action to recover the maritime-terrestrial public domain that includes the elimination of the existing staircase. However, the City Council assures that it has not been informed of the start of the works nor has it received explanations about the objectives of the intervention.

"We want to know what actions are being carried out and what their scope is, what project is planned and what alternatives exist. The first thing is to know the intentions of the Ministry to be able to defend the interests of the municipality," says Óscar Noda.

Given this situation, the mayor will immediately request a meeting with the director general of the Coast and the Sea to demand detailed information about the action and convey the concern of the City Council and the residents of El Golfo.
