The Yaiza City Council has published the specific call for the granting of subsidies for the promotion and dissemination of the traditional sport of Latin sailing with a total amount of 20,000 euros. The Latin sailing clubs in the municipality can submit their applications until January 15, 2026, by consulting the detailed regulatory bases in the sports link on the municipal website.
Among the evaluation criteria, the call establishes participation in **competitions promoted by the Yaiza City Council**, such as the South Latin Sail Cup, and other **official island and regional events**, although Yaiza also takes into account proposals for educational activities presented by the clubs aimed at training and disseminating Latin sailing.
The Yaiza Sports councilor, Ángel Lago, highlights "the breath of fresh air that Latin sailing took in Yaiza, and particularly in Playa Blanca, starting with the celebration of the first Copa Vela del Sur in 2021, a cup that we continue to organize with federative support and the participation of boats from Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. This 2026 we reach the sixth edition with all the enthusiasm to continue promoting a sport with a lot of tradition and following from fans".
The City Council presided over by Óscar Noda highlights "the work of the clubs and the support of the entire sports family that increases the competitive level of traditional sailing in Yaiza, allowing our boats to win regional tournaments such as the Copa de Canarias".
