This Thursday, the Yaiza City Council deposited a total of 89,000 euros to twelve entities and clubs linked to the operation of the Municipal Initiation Sports Schools. This is the first payment of the two programmed in aid to grassroots sports for the current 2024 - 2025 season, whose global amount reaches 130,000 euros, with which Yaiza will soon pay 41,000 euros more destined to promote the learning and practice of different sports disciplines among children in the municipality.
The mayor, Óscar Noda, highlights "Yaiza's effective support for the youth system and the promotion of sports events that move the economy, such as the Wine Run. On Saturday the 14th in Uga we have the Wine Run Kids and on Sunday, June 15th, the long distance competition for adults in La Geria with arrival in Uga."
In the set of aid that the municipality has just deposited, there are subsidies for soccer, Canarian wrestling, handball, sailing and indoor soccer, among other sports. "For the granting of these aids, we evaluate the number of boys and girls from each school who participate regularly in training and competitions, this is very important, because the registration of those enrolled is not enough; we also take into account the qualifications of coaches and monitors, because we are interested in the schools offering a qualified service; and we also consider autochthonous sports and high-cost disciplines," explains the Sports Councilor of Yaiza, Ángel Lago.
Apart from the aid to Sports Schools, Yaiza has lines of subsidies for individual athletes and sports events that not only promote sports, but are also a window of international tourist promotion.
