Vox denounces "the terrible deterioration" of Arrecife's neighborhoods due to the "incapacity" of the Government

The party highlights the "serious situation in which sidewalks in areas like San Francisco Javier find themselves, what the City Council calls 'park' in Maneje or the amount of trash and belongings that are everywhere"

The two VOX councillors in Arrecife City Council, Eugenio Hernández and Enrique Barrios, have once again denounced the "terrible deterioration" in which the neighborhoods of the Lanzarote capital find themselves, "not only due to previous governments but also due to the current one's inability to take concrete measures to solve very basic problems".

Specifically, after the visit made by councilman Enrique Barrios through different areas, they believe it is necessary for the current Government of the Popular Party (PP) and Canarian Coalition (CC) "to focus on resolving very basic issues, those that do not require large projects or large investments." “It is not about, because at VOX we are aware of how slow administrative procedures are nowadays, asking for big things. But it is about carrying out simple actions that improve the daily lives of residents, for which they pay taxes. It is clear that there is money in the municipal coffers, hence we can only think that it is idleness that prevents our municipality from being transformed,” Barrios summarizes.

The councilor made a visit with the residents to several areas, and assures "having been surprised, for example, by how they showed him the sidewalks, to call them something, of different streets in San Francisco Javier, something third-world that should shame any ruler on the planet". “In places like Alfonso XIII street, what is defined as a sidewalk is certainly something surreal, since they don't even have a drop of cement. It is incredible that something so elemental is not part of the urgent procedures that the current Government does use for other types of matters,” the councilor highlights, annoyed.

Also in San Francisco Javier, as practically happens in the rest of the capital's neighborhoods, the party has detected "a tremendous problem with trash that not a few unscrupulous people leave in different corners and even place around the bins. They do not understand, although they know that the Councilor for Cleaning, Jacobo Lemes, has given all kinds of explanations linked to the uncivil behavior of people, why more forceful action is not taken, with measures such as surveillance and sanctions for all people who do not respect their environment".

“It wouldn't hurt to work on a plan for the use of cameras at the points where the containers are, as they have in other municipalities, to be able to detect and sanction the uncivil ones. What cannot be done is to continue allowing this and standing idly by, simply entrusting the concessionaire company, with the additional cost that this entails, to act in sweeps for the collection of all kinds of belongings that are also not effective, since after a few days everything is back to how it was or worse”, says Enrique Barrios.

Likewise, the VOX councilor visited with the residents of the area the Maneje neighborhood. "Especially serious seems to him the situation of what the City Council defines as “park”, a totally abandoned place where weeds grow, where the wooden benches are uprooted and where there is no ornament that serves as enjoyment for the citizens who have to be there", he points out.

“We have come across benches where barely an iron bar remains, others that have three wooden planks, light boxes ripped out, no maintenance of infrastructures that are already obsolete. The residents can't take it anymore, and from the Government presided over by Yonathan de León, who passed by the place at the same time as us, they always tell them the same thing, that they are working on it, that they are going to solve everything. They have been governing for three years now and have had more than enough time not only to build an auditorium, a convention center or a new sports city, but to build a decent park for the residents of Maneje or streets to walk through in areas like Titerroy, San Francisco Javier or Altavista,” the VOX councilor finally summarizes, disheartened.
