Vox attributes the problems in the Tías residence to the "chair dance" between parties in the Cabildo

The far-right formation questions: "How is it possible that Marciano Acuña ignored the warnings until the video scandal?"

PLENO CABILDO DE LANZAROTE ABRIL 25 (23)

The VOX councilor in the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Óscar Pérez Pérez, has described the situation of the Tías Elderly Residence as "systemic negligence". Following the serious revelations of abuse and lack of basic care for elderly and dependent people, the far-right party has pointed out that the problem "is not only with the managing company, but with a political structure that has prioritized partisan control over technical oversight".

For Óscar Pérez Pérez  the chronology of the last decade evidences "a worrying pattern". Thus, he has pointed out that "the management and technical links of the center have changed at least five times in ten years, coinciding almost mathematically with electoral cycles and changes of color in the Cabildo".

The Vox councilor has assured that the rotation of officials at the top of the residence, "coinciding with the political swings between the PSOE, Canarian Coalition and the Popular Party, has turned an essential service into a laboratory for political tests,” denounces the councilor".

“That lack of continuity, with officials who barely last two years in the position, prevents a serious care project from existing and causes loyalty to the office of the current counselor to weigh more than strict vigilance over the Amavir company”, he added.

Vox denounces "instability" in the management of the center

The VOX councilor has stressed that this "instability" has created a "blind spot" that the current managers have not wanted to see. "It is a proven fact that the unions had already raised the alarm about the exhaustion of the staff and the lack of basic material, such as sheets and towels", he highlighted.

In this regard, he has assured that it is verifiable that already in September 2025, healthcare personnel warned of serious deficiencies before the Cabildo and the Labor Inspectorate.

“How is it possible that the current Minister of Social Welfare, Marciano Acuña, ignored these warnings until the video scandal broke in the press?”, questions the VOX councilor. “It is not an isolated error; it is a system failure. While María Dolores Corujo's PSOE and Oswaldo Betancort's CC were exchanging areas of power, no one listened to the workers who reported that the elderly were sleeping on plastic. They have preferred to manage trusted payrolls instead of sanction files”.

Given the seriousness of the events investigated by the Civil Guard, Vox has demanded that:

  1. That those responsible for socio-health coordination be chosen by strict merit criteria, with commands that do not depend on the political card of the island Government.
  2. Investigate why the complaints from unions and health personnel from 2025 would have been "filed or ignored" by the intermediate positions of the Cabildo.
  3. VOX will request the urgent appearance of those responsible for auditing. "If the company Amavir cannot guarantee human dignity, the Cabildo must proceed to review the contract and act according to the most elementary legal principles of the rights of our elders and contract termination for non-compliance," they continued.

“From VOX we are not going to allow the Tías residence to continue being used as a political chessboard. Our elders deserve professional and humane management. The time for blaming the previous one is over; it is time for the Cabildo to assume its responsibility as the service provider," they concluded.
