The spokesperson for Ciudadanos (Cs) in the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Vidina Espino, has resigned from her party for having voted in the Congress of Deputies in favor of the reduction of the tax differential for audiovisual productions made in the Islands.

In a monographic plenary session on the REF, Vidina Espino said that this behavior "can only be explained from a way of understanding politics based on submission to party directives, even when these force one to lose coherence or act in a way contrary to one's own values and beliefs."

Espino acknowledged that she found it hard to believe that Cs had joined the majority against the REF together with Bildu, ERC and Unidas Podemos, and considered it "unusual" that the response from her party colleagues had been that they acted in this way "because they thought it was appropriate to do so."

Vidina Espino stated that since joining Ciudadanos she has accepted "out of coherence and loyalty" to the party "things that she would never have accepted if she had not been in politics; petty evils, unfair attacks, lies in the media and on social networks and the odd prank."

She also admitted that she "never" believed that something like what happened in Congress could happen in Cs and recalled that she herself heard Inés Arrimada defend the REF, while now "they reply that they think it is appropriate to vote against the unanimous pronouncement of the Parliament of the Canary Islands."

"I cannot and do not want to remain silent consenting to another new outrage to our rights," Vidina Espino stressed, who "out of coherence, responsibility and loyalty" to those who voted for her and those who did not, has communicated her resignation from Ciudadanos.
