José Valle, president of the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, answered some questions this Wednesday on the program Buenos días, Lanzarote of Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero, some of them about the taxi service on the island, which many Lanzarote residents complain about due to long waits and lack of service.
"Sincerely, they have to consider seeing where the problem is, I have met with all the presidents of the cooperatives and we have tried in some way to help them and they are wrong because they are closing themselves off to not making any decision", Valle assured.
"I am accused of wanting VTC to arrive, but I don't want that, I want a taxi service as it should be, but we are not being intelligent and I am going to send them a message that we have to sit down to negotiate because with the number of licenses that exist today, a perfect service can be provided, but it cannot be that we are closed off when the sector, with this change of tourist that is coming, mobility is beginning to benefit and that is fundamental", he declared.
The president of the Chamber continued saying that "the queues are not only at the airport because we have municipalities in which it is impossible to get a taxi and that is something that we have to consider, we have to sit down and establish a system that we already have today, where all the municipalities coordinate when necessary, but I am not referring to insularizing the service, but we do have to start taking it seriously because either we get our act together, or the solutions will arrive".
The president of the Chamber of Commerce also criticizes that "it cannot be that in the century we are in and with digitization, certain municipalities do not have a geolocation system in the cars and when we receive the real data of this situation, we are going to realize the disaster we have on this island with the taxi sector".
In addition, he has revealed that the Chamber will commission a survey to find out the assessment that the people of Lanzarote make of the taxi service on the island.
"It cannot be that we tell people not to take the car after a party but then there are no taxis and the argument they give me of 'there are queues everywhere' is not valid either", he indicates. In this sense, Valle says that he is going to try to talk to the presidents of the cooperatives again to find a solution".
