The Department of Urban Planning of the Arrecife City Council has approved urban planning licenses for the construction of a total of 255 homes during 2024. Of these, 210 correspond to new buildings, 24 to extensions of existing projects and 21 to modifications of projects in progress.
At the local Government Board held last Thursday, December 26, the last 22 homes of the year were given the green light, consolidating the municipal effort to meet the growing demand for housing in the island's capital.
Among them, the reform and change of use of a five-story building on León y Castillo street stands out, which transforms old commercial premises into 16 homes and two new premises. The legalization and expansion of a building on El Salvador and Calderón de la Barca streets was also approved, as well as the extension for the construction of five homes on Agustín Espinosa street.
These municipal initiatives are complemented by the 201 official protection homes (VPO) that the Government of the Canary Islands is building in the Los Geranios de Maneje urbanization.
This project, which involves an investment of 19.6 million euros, represents the first public homes to be built in Lanzarote in the last 27 years.
The Councilor for Urban Planning, Maciot Cabrera, highlighted that "this year we have taken a significant step in urban planning management, optimizing times and reducing response times to license applications, aware of the urgent need for housing in the city. The effort and dedication of our team in the Technical Office have been fundamental to providing solutions to one of the most urgent challenges that Arrecife has."
