The PSOE deputy for Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Marcos Bergaz, asked the Minister of Public Works, Housing and Mobility of the Government of the Canary Islands, Pablo Rodríguez (CC), this Thursday when the adjudication procedures for the 201 protected homes in Maneje, in Arrecife, will begin, during the parliamentary commission of the area.
The Maneje development comprises three modules or buildings of 67 homes each and is part of the Canary Housing Plan promoted during the previous regional term, under the presidency of Ángel Víctor Torres.
During his speech, the deputy showed interest in the deadlines for initiating the adjudication procedures and the steps that must be completed for the beneficiary families to access these homes.
The Minister of Housing confirmed that the first two modules already have the final works certificate, "they are finished." However, he explained that it is still necessary to complete the actions related to the buildings' supplies and the prior administrative procedures to start the adjudications.
According to the calendar presented by Rodríguez, the adjudication procedure for the first module will begin in November and for the second, in December. These dates correspond to the start of the respective procedures, and not to the handover of keys, which will depend on the resolution of the scoring competition in which interested parties must participate.
Bergaz recalled that the Ministry had already communicated other forecasts for this development and insisted on the importance of having a reliable calendar that provides certainty to the families waiting to access public housing. "We need the given deadlines to be respected, many families are waiting," said the deputy.
As for the third module, which has another 67 homes, Rodríguez indicated that it does not yet have the final works certificate and that the forecast is to complete the works during the first quarter of 2027. The minister also placed the start of the adjudication procedure for these homes in the first quarter of that year.
Rodríguez explained that the selection of the awardees will not be done by lottery, but through a scoring system. Once the application period is open, candidacies will be evaluated and a provisional list of awardees will be published.
During the commission, Bergaz focused on the severity of the housing emergency in Lanzarote, with a growing demand for protected housing in Lanzarote. According to the data presented by the deputy, at the end of August 2026, there were 3,531 people registered in the island's Registry of Applicants for Protected Housing.
Added to this situation is the evolution of real estate market prices. According to the Lanzarote Data Center, the average advertised price of housing for sale reached 3,335 euros per square meter in September 2026, 13.55% more than in the same month of the previous year.
Hence, Bergaz insisted on the need to meet the announced deadlines and expedite pending procedures. "With more than 3,500 applicants for protected housing in Lanzarote, it is urgent that these homes are allocated as soon as possible and become homes for the families who need them," he concluded.
