This Thursday, the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium celebrated World Volunteer Day with an emotional event in which the work of the Civil Protection body of the seven municipalities of the island was valued. The ceremony highlighted the commitment and altruism of the men and women who, selflessly, dedicate their time to guaranteeing the safety and well-being of citizens.
During the event, which was attended by the Vice President of the Cabildo, Jacobo Medina, and the President of the Security and Emergency Consortium, Francisco J. Aparicio, as well as representatives from all the municipalities, a commemorative video was presented that reviewed the most outstanding activities of the volunteers throughout the year, highlighting their contribution in critical situations and their role as fundamental pillars in the management of emergencies on the Island. The event also included the participation of representatives from the seven municipalities, who presented gifts and Christmas baskets as a symbol of gratitude to the Civil Protection groups.
The Vice President of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Jacobo Medina, thanked "the commendable work of volunteering in Lanzarote and La Graciosa." "They are a fundamental piece in the daily lives of the people of Lanzarote and Graciosa, who selflessly ensure the safety and well-being of all the residents of both islands," said Medina.
For his part, the president of the Security and Emergency Consortium, Francisco Aparicio, stressed in his speech the "indispensable" role played by these groups in preventive campaigns, simulations and assistance in emergencies: "The work of Civil Protection volunteers is fundamental for Lanzarote. Their daily involvement not only saves lives, but also strengthens the bonds of solidarity and collective responsibility on our island," said Aparicio.
Aparicio also took the opportunity to reaffirm the Consortium's commitment to the volunteers: "We will continue working to strengthen our collaboration with Civil Protection, providing them with the necessary tools to continue carrying out this commendable work. Today more than ever, Lanzarote owes them its gratitude."
The day ended with a musical performance by saxophonist Yeison Estiven Ortega Betancur and violinist Javier Martín Santana.
