The Ministry of Universities, Science, Innovation and Culture of the Government of the Canary Islands has announced the travel grants corresponding to the academic year 2024/2025, aimed at students residing in the Canary Islands who, for academic reasons, had to pursue their official university studies of Bachelor's or Master's degree outside their island of habitual residence. The objective is to partially compensate the expenses already assumed by the students as a consequence of this mobility and to recognize the economic effort that implies accessing training in conditions of equity.
“Insularity conditions access to higher education, especially for those who reside on less populated islands. That is why it is necessary for public policies to contemplate this reality and offer fair compensation mechanisms,” says the Minister of Universities, Science, Innovation and Culture, Migdalia Machín. “With these grants we give continuity to that commitment and, by anticipating its publication, we facilitate a more agile processing from the administration, which allows us to attend to subsequent processes in time,” she concludes.
The grants contemplate both travel between islands and those made to public university centers outside the Archipelago or in European countries within the framework of the Erasmus+ program, in those cases in which there was no academic offer on the island of residence or a place was not obtained on it.
The global amount of the call amounts to 700,000 euros, with the possibility of extension if necessary to meet all applications that meet the requirements. The individual amounts vary depending on the origin and destination of the trip, and range between 120 and 240 euros for studies on another island, and reach 360 euros when the studies have been carried out outside the Archipelago.
The call has been published today, July 31, in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands, and the deadline for submitting applications will be open from August 1 to 31.
