María Jesús Tovar, vicepresident of the Cabildo de Lanzarote and general secretary of the PP of Lanzarote, revealed this Tuesday on the program Buenos días, Lanzarote of Radio Lanzarote Onda-Cero that she does not rule out running for the Presidency of the Popular Party of Lanzarote.
The general secretary of the PP assured in a media outlet that "it was being considered" to run for the Presidency of the party. "It would not be a bad option because I like the party and I understand the internal organization of the party," she explained.
However, she stressed that she will run "as long as the current president, Astrid Pérez, does not run, because if she runs, maximum loyalty to her and she would have all my support."
Regarding whether her candidacy is certain, Tovar pointed out that she has not yet taken the step. "I still cannot say yes or no because I don't like to lie and I said I was thinking about it because it's true," she stated.
"I am grateful for all the support I have received, I did not think so many people would support me because many people have called me and even met with me, so I feel strong to run," she indicated.
For now, the current general secretary of the popular party has left her candidacy for the Presidency up in the air. "We'll see, this is politics and I said I was thinking about it and I don't know if I will continue in politics or not, I don't know what will happen in a few months, but I continue working to help citizens and get involved," she concluded.
