The Socialist deputy for Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Marcos Bergaz, asked this Friday in the parliamentary committee on Universities, Science and Innovation and Culture the councilor, Migdalia Machín (CC), about the opening of the "Casa Torres" located in La Villa de Teguise as a museum space.

Thus, the deputy and also socialist spokesperson in Teguise inquired about the pending actions required for this historic building in the heart of La Villa's historic district, acquired by the previous Canary Islands Government, presided over by Ángel Víctor Torres (PSOE), to open its doors to the public: "We are eager for the public to be able to visit this architectural gem," he stated.

"Casa Torres, as the previous Canary Islands Government itself justified in its acquisition - Bergaz recalled - is one of the best examples of an 18th-century urban stately home in Lanzarote, with unique architectural features, as well as a series of movable elements preserved inside that make it an opportunity for the dissemination and knowledge of the heritage values of Lanzarote and the Canary Islands."

"Hence, the various initiatives carried out, taking an interest in the rehabilitation work, but also in the announced transfer of the property to the Cabildo, pending for a year, and necessary to advance the museum and cultural project that was intended with the acquisition of this historic house," Bergaz stressed.

In her response, Councilor Migdalia Machín informed the deputy that on October 17, a step would be taken with the transfer of the property to the Cabildo, "depending on that, a part of rehabilitation has to be done, it is not an easy work to do," she replied.

The Lanzarote deputy was doubly pleased about this, "firstly, because on the 17th a transfer pending for a year will finally be formalized; and secondly, that the scoop is given in response to a question from this deputy, who is also a councilor and spokesperson in Teguise.”

To conclude, Bergaz invited the councilor to "take advantage of the enormous opportunities that Teguise presents in terms of historical heritage, with pending actions such as the rehabilitation of the Casa del Cura in Caleta de Famara, the promotion of the special plan for the historical complex of La Villa, or the opening of the Casa Torres itself, in which we need the Canarian Government to join efforts."
