The Minister of Territorial Policy, Ángel Víctor Torres, has asked this Friday that PP and Vox, if they come to govern, do not repeal the reform of the Immigration Law that has allowed the reception of migrant minors to correspond to all communities, not just those of arrival.
During the visit he made in Lanzarote to the municipalities of Haría and Tías, Torres pointed out that, thanks to that reform, "more than 2,000 minors (who arrived in the Canary Islands) are in other places without any coexistence problems," for which reason he has asked both parties to reconsider and protect the best interests of the minor.
The minister has denied that there is a "pull effect" and has defended that an equitable distribution is taking place.
In fact, he continued, the decision of whether an autonomous community ceases to be in migratory contingency is a technical, not political, criterion.
On the other hand, after meeting with migrant groups, he pointed out that 94% of the people who have requested regularization in Lanzarote have already obtained it and that it is something "essential for justice, solidarity, and the welfare state" for which 1,000 workers have been hired.
Regarding the investigation opened by the National Court into former socialist president José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, Torres is confident that he will prove his innocence and has assured that his political legacy "is fundamental for equity in this country."
