Civil Protection members from Tinajo move to La Palma

The Tinajo City Council reports that members of the municipality's Civil Protection left on Wednesday afternoon for the island of La Palma. The intention of the trip is, according to the City Council, to “help in everything that is needed and transport to the island of La Palma all the solidarity contributions donated by residents and groups collected in Tinajo during the last weeks through various initiatives.”

The City Council details that four members of the Tinajera association of volunteers, Dulce Tejera, Carolina Morales, Erik Vega and José Hernández, have been traveling by boat from Wednesday to La Palma, via Tenerife, “with three vans full of aid for those affected by the eruption of the Palmera volcano”.

The vehicles will be divided, according to the City Council, “between the Palmera municipalities of Los Llanos, Tazacorte and El Paso.” The load of solidarity products includes “clothing, food for animals, some appliances, hygiene and cleaning products and food, among many other donations sent from Tinajo.”

At the departure of the Civil Protection volunteers from Tinajo to La Palma, the mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, and the Councilor for Security and Emergencies and Civil Protection, Yurena Cubas, came “to offer encouragement and wish them luck.”

The mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, thanked “the help of volunteers and residents who joined in the collection of products in all the socio-cultural centers and the Social Hall of Tinajo.” Machín also remembered “two female volunteers from Tinajo, Goretti Sarasibar and Kenya Martín, mother and daughter, who have been in La Palma for two weeks helping to clean ash in the Palmera streets.” "On Tuesday they contacted me to send them special masks that the Civil Protection volunteers from Tinajo are taking to them", Machín stated.

“You can get an idea of how complicated it is to be in La Palma helping today almost without being able to breathe,” added the mayor, who also wished “the best of luck to the team of volunteers who represent the solidarity and affection that the people of Tinajo have towards the island of La Palma.”

“The Virgen de Los Dolores accompanies them on this trip in which they take the Tinajero affection to towns mistreated by the volcano, such as Los Llanos, Tazacorte and El Paso. Thank you for your dedication, exemplary since the Covid-19 pandemic began and also now, coming to help the island of La Palma. Thank you,” the mayor concluded.
