The III Crime Novel Meeting in Tías closed this weekend three days dedicated to the noir genre, with a devoted audience and a literary atmosphere that once again placed Lanzarote as a cultural reference in the field of noir.
The activities took place in the José Saramago House Museum, the San Antonio Chapel, and the Tías Municipal Theater, combining interviews, round tables, theater, and exhibitions that brought together authors, readers, and specialists around the themes of violence, justice, and the human condition. The Councilor for Culture, María José González Díaz, highlighted "the consolidation of the event as a cultural reference point on the island and a space for dialogue between authors and readers."
For María del Río, director of the José Saramago House Museum, "it has kept alive the humanist essence of Saramago, who understood literature as a tool to look at reality with a critical sense."
The director of the Antonio Lozano Cultural Chair of Criminal Gender at the University of La Laguna, Javier Rivero Grandoso, pointed out that "this meeting turns Tías into a space where literature is thought about, listened to, and shared without borders." Writer Marto Pariente, one of the participants, summarized the spirit of the event by stating: "There is something special about talking about violence and redemption surrounded by so much horizon. Tías proves that noir fiction can also be light." The meeting included the participation of authors such as Diego Ameixeiras, C. J. Nieto, Kiko Amat, Mercedes Rosende, and Miguel Aguerralde, who offered the public their particular vision of the genre and its links with contemporary social reality. The III Crime Novel Meeting in Tías was organized by the Antonio Lozano Cultural Chair of Criminal Genre of the University of La Laguna, the Tías City Council, and the José Saramago House Museum, with the sponsorship and collaboration of the Ministry of Culture and Sports (General Directorate of Books and Promotion of Reading), Puerto del Carmen – Lanzarote, Citroën Lanzarote - Auto Laca Canarias, and Diama Bookstore.
