Tías meets with Acuaes in Madrid to "speed up" the wastewater treatment plant project

The mayor and the first deputy mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz and Mame Fernández, met this Tuesday in Madrid with the general director of Waters of the River Basins of Spain (ACUAES), Rosa Cobo Mayoral, and with the technical director of the company, Jerónimo Moreno Gayá, to monitor the contract for the drafting of the project to expand and improve the Tías Treatment Plant.

In this regard, the City Council points out that the state-owned commercial company Aguas de las Cuencas de España recently awarded the technical assistance for drafting the project to expand and improve the Tías Treatment Plant, with an execution period of eight months, and that on December 4, the contract was signed with the awarding company, Soluciones North Line SL, for an amount of 134,000 euros.

"This signature has finally allowed the project to be unblocked and given a boost so that it can be executed as soon as possible. This means that in September we will already have the project, which foresees a millionaire investment and will allow us to respond to the needs of Tías and Puerto del Carmen, also connecting Mácher, Puerto Calero, Uga and Yaiza," explained the mayor.

"Working hand in hand" with the Government of the Canary Islands and the Cabildo

José Juan Cruz and Mame Fernández valued the meeting held in Madrid with the top officials of ACUAES and recalled that the action is planned to be co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund ERDF 2014-2020, within the Pluriregional Operational Program of Spain (POPE). "It is important that we also work hand in hand with the Government of the Canary Islands and with the Cabildo of Lanzarote," said Cruz.

The action, which was declared of General Interest of the State, contemplates the expansion and adaptation of the current WWTP, in order to cover the future needs of the towns it serves, Tías and Puerto del Carmen, and guarantee adequate treatment of wastewater, so that the treated effluent complies with the regulatory limits set by Directive 91/27/CEE.

Taking advantage of the expansion of the treatment capacity of the WWTP, the action contemplates the incorporation to the installation of the discharges from the towns of Yaiza, Uga, so it will be necessary to provide a sanitation network to both nuclei and execute a new general collector, to which the wastewater from Puerto Calero and Mácher will also be incorporated, through an independent branch.
