The urban center of Tías experienced a celebratory atmosphere this morning on the occasion of International Women's Day, which began in the municipality on March 4 and will end on the 13th at the Municipal Theater with the grand gala recognizing seven Women with Footprints along with the musical show Voces de Mujer, directed by Eva Aroca.
The 8M celebration kicked off this Friday with the inauguration in Plaza del Pavón of four murals created by the artist Iván T. The colorful murals contain messages about gender violence and recommendations for dealing with it, while showing the strength and rebirth of women. The artist was accompanied by his assistants, representatives of Equality groups and some members of the government team, José Juan Cruz, Nicolás Saavedra, Pepa González, Christopher Notario and Miriam Hernández.
Some of the municipal representatives later participated in the special Radio Tías program, broadcast live from the Town Hall Square. In this program, hosted by Ruiz Rodríguez, Fran Vega and Fatiha Kaddur, the importance of "continuing to advance, men and women, towards societies without a gender gap" was highlighted, said the mayor, José Juan Cruz.
Women with Footprints
The radio program also gave prominence to the Women with Footprints linked to the municipality of Tías who this year will be honored at the special gala scheduled for March 13. The women or groups of women are the members of the Coral Marina, the Abuelas Conejeras Canarian ball team, Juana Delgado, Beatrice Senent, Juana Saavedra, María Brito and Betty Bonani.
The Tías City Council will place these days a symbolic street plaque personalized with the name of these seven women in different strategic points of the municipality where their activity has left an impression and evocation.
8M Manifesto
The Mararía association, represented by the lawyer Carmen Delia Reyes, was in charge of the elaboration and reading of the 8M Manifesto, "a day to forge the pending challenges to eradicate all forms of discrimination that persist against women and girls in the 21st century." "Real and effective equality cannot be achieved solely with legislative changes. A deep and structural change within our society is essential."
In addition to these events, this afternoon at 5:00 p.m. a poetry recital coordinated by Mercedes Minguela will be offered at the Conecta Tías headquarters. The recital will be starred by the poets Mercedes Minguela, Begoña Hernández, Montse Fillol, Yolanda Ruano, Rosa Ortega and María del Mar Dávila. The singer Eva Aroca, the pianist Cielo Guzmán and the artist Alice Battezzati will also participate.
The celebration of Women's Day will continue on Saturday, March 9, with a hiking route that will depart at 10:30 a.m. from the Los Lirios socio-cultural center and end around 1:30 p.m. at the Tegoyo Hostel. The route will be interpreted by Rafael Torres, from the Participas association, with the collaboration of the Mararía association.
On March 9, at 8:30 p.m., the Miguel Navarro Ballets de Tenerife company will perform at the Municipal Theater of Tías with the show Soirée du Ballet, six jewels for a night of dance. Ballets de Tenerife has performed in different auditoriums in the Canary Islands, Galicia, Valencia and France.
The last event will take place on Wednesday, March 13, at 7:30 p.m., at the Municipal Theater of Tías, which will host the gala recognizing seven Women with Footprints of the municipality. During the event, the show Voces de Mujer, directed by Eva Aroca, will be offered. Most of the events are being interpreted by sign language.
