The mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz Saavedra, regrets that the Cabildo of Lanzarote "does not act with speed" in the adaptation of the road from Masdache to El Peñón after admitting that "it is the worst road in Lanzarote, which not even bicycles use". The mayor recalls that the Cabildo of Lanzarote has had two documents for years, a project for a new road and a separate part of that project that contemplates its restoration.
José Juan Cruz confirms that this road "is impassable" and the residents of Masdache "have prolonged their discontent for too long, waiting for years for the Cabildo of Lanzarote to act and finalize the necessary procedures by providing the sectoral reports from its departments of Territorial Policy and Environment, which it has not done".
The road between Masdache and El Peñón has been in deplorable conditions for years. The first project for this road contemplated major actions and the widening of the road with expropriations, which clashed with the island's environmental regulations as it is affected by the Los Volcanes Natural Park and the La Geria Protected Landscape.
Therefore, and to meet the relevant environmental requirements, this project was subsequently used as a base document to extract separate parts or sub-projects and to be able to execute the work in phases to re-asphalt the road.
"The island institution resumed the administrative procedures and processes to reactivate the improvement of this road, but the results are invisible, they do not exist," complains Cruz Saavedra, who shares the discontent of the residents of Masdache and the affected area.
The mayor insists that the road improvement project between Masdache and El Peñón, framed within the LZ-58 road, "continues to accumulate delays and the official deadlines generate dissatisfaction due to its slowness".
