The Los Pocillos beach, in the municipality of Tías, hosted a gathering of old and modern trucks last weekend, organized by the sector's cooperative and in collaboration with the Tías City Council. This initiative has a solidarity objective: the collection of toys for the Flora Acoge Foundation, in Arrecife
The response from companies, self-employed individuals, and citizens themselves made it possible to collect more than 200 toys that will be donated to children in vulnerable situations
The event brought together more than sixty trucks belonging to different companies and self-employed individuals, as well as heavy machinery and vintage cars, which filled the tourist area of Puerto del Carmen with color and activity. The gathering turned Los Pocillos into a large showcase for the transport and machinery sector, but above all into a meeting point for solidarity and social commitment.
The mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, thanked all the participating individuals and entities for their involvement and highlighted the solidarity of the initiative: "Tías has once again shown that it is a solidary municipality. Behind each of these toys there is a family thinking of another family, and that is what makes us stronger as a community," he emphasized.
Cruz also highlighted the role of the municipality's and the island's business fabric: "I want to especially thank the companies and self-employed individuals in the transport and machinery sector who have thrown themselves into this event. When private initiative and institutions row in the same direction, we are capable of improving the lives of many children who today need a hand," said the mayor.
Agility tests and raffles
Throughout the day, various activities were organized for the public, such as **agility tests with cranes and machinery**, as well as special raffles among those who collaborated by donating toys. All of this was possible thanks to the support of sponsors Riverconsa, Hercio, the Enyesque restaurant, and Coca-Cola.
The collaborating company Hercio set up a stand where they exhibited their trucks and vehicles specially equipped for audiovisual shoots and music festivals, in addition to providing the safety barriers and sound equipment for the event. Coca-Cola was the protagonist of one of the most striking tests, in which participants had to lift the caps of their iconic bottles with the tips of the cranes, generating great excitement among the public.
The Enyesque restaurant was in charge of serving food to the attendees, adding a gastronomic touch to a day marked by camaraderie and a good atmosphere. For its part, Riverconsa took on the general organization of the event, coordinating the spaces, the tests, and the various shows, including a colorful light show and an exhibition tour along Puerto del Carmen avenue.
The mayor concluded by emphasizing that these types of initiatives align with the model of municipality defended by the government group: "We want a dynamic Tías, with economic activity, with events that attract residents and visitors, but that never loses sight of solidarity. If anything defines this municipality, it is its capacity to care for its people, and today we have proven it once again," stated José Juan Cruz.
This solidarity gathering not only brought together professionals from the transport and machinery sector but also managed to mobilize a good part of the community around a charitable cause, demonstrating that unity and collaboration can positively transform the lives of many children in the municipality and on the island.
