The Tourism team of the Tías City Council held the first of the sectorial working tables this Wednesday together with the tourism companies of the municipality. The call, open to all companies and groups that develop their activity in the main economic sector of the municipality, had a wide representation of it.
The meeting took place in the Assembly Hall of the El Fondeadero Civic Center and was presented by the first deputy mayor and Councilor for Tourism and Beaches, Mame Fernández, who was accompanied by the technical team of Tourism: Ani Ruiz, Pedro Rodríguez and Domingo Lorenzo.
The event was attended by a wide representation of tourism in the municipality, with representatives from bars and restaurants, tourist accommodation, event organizers, consultants, private hospitals, tourist guides, passenger transport, leisure companies and tour operators. Among others, two members of the Lanzarote Foreign Promotion Society (SPEL) also attended.
The Councilor for Tourism and Beaches, Mame Fernández, stated that "after more than 50 years of tourist history, this municipality aspires to fulfill at least another 50 years. "To achieve this, we must rethink the destination model we want to be and be proactive to the demands of those who visit us," he said.
"We are thinking about the tourist future of the municipality of Tías but we cannot forget about the present, we are aware of the poor condition of many streets, the problems with the selective collection of waste, the poor condition of the beach bathrooms, and the long list of details that already occupy us in the day to day," added the mayor.
Collaboration from the rest of the administrations
Domingo Lorenzo, from the Tourism team, then spoke, explaining the lines of work they are developing. "For the development of our tourism strategy we need the collaboration of the rest of the administrations. To achieve this, meetings have been held with the General Directorate of Infrastructure of the Government of the Canary Islands, with the president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, with the Biosphere Reserve team and with those responsible for the Lanzarote Smart Island project," he explained.
"We are sharing our ideas with all those who can help us achieve the objectives. We cannot do this alone, and the response so far has been very positive, Domingo Lorenzo advanced during his speech
Within the four lines of work of the aforementioned plan: Sustainable Development, Accessibility, Gastronomy and Sports, the City Council highlights a series of well-defined objectives in which it is already working, such as the III Modernization Plan of Puerto del Carmen under sustainable criteria. To this is added the upcoming drafting of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan of the municipality of Tías and the agenda is being drawn up to eliminate single-use plastics.
In addition, the Council states that it is working to install the Canary Islands Climate Change Observatory in the municipality. "We have taken into account in next year's budgets items for the drafting of the Accessibility Plan that eliminates barriers, the drafting of the project for the Restaurant School facilities is being carried out and we are in talks to bring the Single Window for renewables and organize conferences in the municipality," it is pointed out.
The Department of Tourism of the Tías City Council appreciates the presence of all those who participated in this first meeting and encourages the rest of those involved in the tourism sector to participate in the next meetings.
