The Tías City Council has convened the municipality's residents for an informational meeting to explain the steps being taken with the aim of halting the proposal by the Government of the Canary Islands and the Cabildo of Lanzarote regarding the Renewable Acceleration Zones (ZAR).

The meeting, which will take place at the Mácher sociocultural center on Tuesday the 16th at 7:30 PM, is aimed at all citizens and especially at the population of the areas that could be affected by this planning, Mácher, Puerto del Carmen, Tías, and Conil.

The governing group defends the implementation of renewable energies, but photovoltaic panels must be installed on existing roofs and coverings and not on land. The ZAR contemplates the occupation of a large area in the municipality of Tías, millions of square meters, to install photovoltaic plants and wind turbines in the territory.

The City Council considers it essential for citizens to know firsthand the scope of this model, the effects it may have on the territory, and the actions being promoted to defend the municipality's interests.

The governing group emphasizes that Tías is in favor of the development of renewable energies and of moving towards a more sustainable energy model, but it understands that this transition must be done with planning, consensus, and respect for the landscape, agricultural land, population centers, and the identity of the municipality.

The City Council insists that the municipality needs renewables, but it also needs to protect its territory, its landscape, and its quality of life. Therefore, it encourages the citizens of Mácher, Puerto del Carmen, Tías, and Conil to participate in this informational meeting.
