The Tías City Council, governed by PSOE and Podemos, approved this week in an ordinary plenary session the closing of the 2025 general budget, which ended without public debt and with a treasury surplus of 26.4 million euros. The Councilor for Finance, Tomás Silvera, stressed that the council “enjoys a sound economic situation”.

This is confirmed by the Management Audit for the 2025 fiscal year prepared by the Canary Municipal Financing Fund 2026 of the Vice-Ministry of Administrations and Transparency of the Government of the Canary Islands, which certifies that the City Council “achieved the forecasts established within the framework of the balance defined in the previous year”.

Tomás Silvera explained that the municipal government seeks to continue advancing in the established objectives to improve the lives of residents. “Both last year, and this year, and since we have been in government, we have worked to reactivate the economy with responsible accounts focused on the provision of public services to citizens”.

The final assessment of the audit indicates that long-term debt remains at 0.0 percentage points with respect to the forecast and stands at 0.0%, the same amount as the forecast. Furthermore, “the Treasury Surplus reaches 126.6%, exceeding the contemplated forecasts”.

The population evolution as of January 1, 2025, compared to January 1, 2024, is quantified as an increase of 151 inhabitants, placing the total population on that date at 21,613 inhabitants. Total current income per inhabitant in 2025 stood at 1,416 euros, lower than the 1,677 euros recorded in 2024, placing it below the average for Canary municipalities with similar characteristics (which reached 1,856 euros per inhabitant in that year).

Tax collection per inhabitant was below the average for Canary municipalities with similar characteristics, standing at 852 euros in 2025 compared to the average of 1,042 euros in 2024.

“With this data in hand, we can continue to say that the tax burden on residents continues to decrease, and that this is also due to the multiple discounts that have been included in all tax ordinances from which residents benefit,” stated Silvera.

General Assessment Canary Municipal Financing Fund

In view of the results obtained by the Tías City Council in the settlement of the budget for the year 2025, it can be concluded, with the due qualifications, that a positive evolution in its economic-financial and budgetary management is appreciated in relation to the year 2024. In general terms, the financial health indicators established by the Law of the Canary Fund for Municipal Financing are above the required levels

Dependence on external subsidies reached 33.9%, a level lower than in the previous year and below the average for Canary municipalities with similar characteristics in 2024, which stood at 40.7%. "This data, together with the treasury surplus, shows that we have sufficient financial muscle to invest with our own means in goods and services that citizens need."

Extrajudicial Recognition

Likewise, during the plenary session, another item was approved related to an extrajudicial recognition of 364,725.70 euros to pay invoices related to different municipal areas. The plenary session definitively approved the fiscal ordinance regulating the fees for the provision of urban solid waste collection services.
