The Cabildo of Lanzarote has initiated the works to transform José Betancort street and the installation of a roof over the stands of the Los Molinos football field. Both interventions are taking place in the municipality of Teguise and have been made possible thanks to funding from the Canary Islands Development Fund, which is managed through the Planning and Project Coordination area led by Vice President María Jesús Tovar.

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, attended both interventions along with the insular vice president, María Jesús Tovar; as well as the mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, and the councilors of the municipality Eugenio Robayna; Nieves Martínez and Alejandro Ramírez.

“We can finally say that CD Teguise, in the centenary of its foundation, will be able to play all its matches with fans protected from the sun. An intervention as demanded as it is necessary, and which, through inter-administrative cooperation, we have made possible for the enjoyment of all football fans in the municipality of Teguise,” stated the president. Regarding the start of the transformation of José Betancort street, the highest official maintained that this work “will involve transforming the current entrance to La Villa de Teguise from a degraded space into a modern, accessible street that respects the idiosyncrasy and history of the municipality.”

For her part, the vice president and head of the Planning and Project Coordination area, María Jesús Tovar, explained that the investment in both actions “exceeds one and a half million euros from the FDCAN”. “On the one hand, we are allocating more than one million for the rehabilitation of one of the main arteries of the municipality, such as José Betancort street; while we are investing more than 500,000 euros in the roof of the football field stands, which has been greatly needed for years,” she pointed out.

The mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, thanked the cabildo leaders “for having understood the need for shade in the Teguise field, as well as the improvement of José Betancort street, important works for the citizens of the municipality.”

The Cabildo of Lanzarote requests residents to respect the provisional signage on José Betancort street, while apologizing for any inconvenience this may cause.
