The municipality of Yaiza is replacing deteriorated garbage containers in different southern towns this week with 200 new containers, with a capacity of 1,200 liters each. This is a coordinated action between the City Council and the company Valoriza Servicios Medioambientales, which since June 1 is responsible for the collection of solid urban waste after the decision of the government presided over by Óscar Noda to contract a new service as an emergency measure in view of the deficient services that the municipality had been suffering.

The replacement of containers in different southern towns is part of the commitments signed by the contractor Valoriza, and is also one of the repeated demands of residents and businesses. The mayor maintains that "an essential service such as garbage collection can always be improved, but in these two months the improvement in the quality of waste collection in all the towns has been noticeable, and this is what residents, hotels, bars and restaurants are saying."

The Councilor for Cleaning, Rubén Arca, recalls that "the annual contract involves an investment of 1.7 million and it includes the updating of technical resources, including new trucks, to optimize performance."

Another determining factor in cleaning has been the installation by the City Council of three compactors in Playa Blanca: one on the plot next to the church, another on Comedero street and one more in the vicinity of the commercial port. In these three concentrated areas, where businesses in the center of Playa Blanca usually throw their garbage, the reduction in waste volume and the hygiene of the environment are evident. On the other hand, Yaiza insists to the Cabildo of Lanzarote on the need to improve the collection of plastics, cardboard and paper "because it is common to see the yellow and blue containers overflowing and with bags around them."
