The Lanzarote Water Consortium opens this Monday, January 19, the period to apply for subsidies aimed at reducing the price of irrigation water for the primary sector, with aid endowed with 200,000 euros from its own funds.

Interested individuals and entities will have from Monday, January 19th to February 13th, inclusive, to submit their applications, within a period of 20 business days as stated in the call for applications published in the Official Provincial Gazette.

The president of the Lanzarote Water Consortium, Oswaldo Betancort, has emphasized that “this call is a key tool to alleviate the costs borne by the primary sector. We are acting in line with ensuring that the price of water is not an obstacle to maintaining agricultural and fishing activity in Lanzarote and La Graciosa”.

The Lanzarote Island Council's Water Counselor, Domingo Cejas, for his part, highlighted that "when we came into island government, we decided that the Water Consortium would take over the file for these subsidies and process them for consumption incurred, since in 2022 these grants were not provided, and 2023 consumption was subsidized in 2024 through a procedure managed by Canal Gestión that did not result in the expected efficiency.""We have simplified the processing for users, and the bases have been drafted to be valid for successive years, which will allow for more agile processing of future calls. We are already working to release the new call with consumption from 2025," the counselor adds.

The call is aimed at users of the agricultural water supply service belonging to the primary sector, both for consumption made through supply networks and through authorized loading points with tanks.

Beneficiaries of this call are farmers affiliated and not affiliated with the agricultural regime, as well as maritime guilds, federations, and cooperatives in relation to consumption for fishing and its commercialization
