The traffic fines that would have been issued irregularly in the Arrecife City Council would represent a hole in the municipal public coffers of almost 600,000 euros.

As La Voz has learned, the council has identified around seven people, who perform their work as public employees, who would have presumably irregularly accessed the traffic fines imposed by the Local Police without following the regulations and would have annulled them without the corresponding discharge reports.

The facts brought to the attention of the Prosecutor's Office include possible irregularities in the elimination of sanctions for ten years.

The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León (PP), also responsible for the Local Police, has restricted access to traffic sanction files, which for the moment are being guarded by an agent of the Local Police.

At the same time, the Arrecife council reported on the afternoon of this past Wednesday that the Legal Department of the City Council sent to the Prosecutor's Office the content of the aforementioned municipal report and assured that the Public Prosecutor's Office had initiated a judicial investigation procedure to clarify the actions.
