The Tinajo Renewal Movement (MRT) has denounced in a press release issued this Tuesday that the mayor, Jesús Machín, has "imposed" the Master Plan for La Santa, El Lago, and La Isleta "behind the citizens' backs, without real neighborhood participation, without political consensus, and without the transparency required by a document of this magnitude".
For the MRT, "Jesús Machín's performance is surreal and responds to outdated policies, far removed from basic democratic principles". "It is inadmissible that the document is first approved in an extraordinary and urgent plenary session and, only afterwards, the intention to listen to the neighbors is announced. In a democracy, the process must be the opposite: first listen, inform, and involve citizens, and then approve," states Antonio Morales.
"The Master Plan was meant to be a pioneering tool, built on the real participation of residents, community groups, business owners, etc. That was the commitment made during the 2023 municipal elections, when thanks to the electoral alliance between the MRT and Nueva Canarias, 200,000 euros were secured to boost this project," Morales highlights"Only about five people were heard"However, that spirit has been betrayed. The document itself acknowledges that "only about five people were heard." From the MRT they have wondered "who decided who was heard and who was not, leaving out the rest of the municipality."
The opposition party has pointed out that "there are especially curious and worrying aspects". According to the document, after its submission to the City Council, a public information process was carried out in which no objections were received, as well as a general information meeting on May 25 and another subsequent meeting, on June 16, with "those who wished to attend".
From the MRT they have denounced that "many residents of La Santa were not summoned or informed that said meetings existed". For this reason, they have requested public explanations from Jesús Machín, "since we are deeply concerned about his ways of acting, marked by opacity and by not telling the truth to the citizens," denounced the MRT spokesperson.
"The Master Plan also reflects what has been known for years: the lack of infrastructure, the insufficient facilities, and the absence of planning for decades as a consequence of a limited public management capacity." "It is striking that around 150,000 euros have been allocated to put into writing a reality that the MRT has been denouncing for years," Morales recalledTo all of this are added questionable proposals, such as the **establishment of a campsite in La Isleta**, and "the use of the Master Plan to camouflage, de facto, a **modification of the General Plan** in the La Santa area"."Tinajo deserved a shared future project," the political party has insisted, indicating that "what was approved does not represent the majority of the citizenry and represents a lost historic opportunity," concluded Antonio Morales
