Canarian Coalition (CC) Yaiza has requested in a motion presented jointly with the rest of the opposition parties the calling of an extraordinary municipal plenary session for mayor Óscar Noda to give explanations about the blockage that the construction work of the Playa Blanca Sports Center is suffering.
In the motion it is requested that Óscar Noda explain the reasons why the City Council did not act ex officio to terminate from July 2024 the contract with the awarded company, despite having legal grounds to do so, once it officially entered into bankruptcy proceedings, delaying that procedure until September 2025.
Likewise, in said extraordinary plenary session, the mayor will be asked to give explanations about the consequences of that delay, its economic impact, and the execution deadlines of the pavilion, as well as the preparation of an updated timeline, realistic and transparent, regarding the new tender and the reactivation of the works of the sports complex.
“Unjustified delay”
In this regard, Emilio Machín, local secretary of CC Yaiza, points out: “Unless he did it deliberately to be able to inaugurate it just before the 2027 elections, it is not understood why the mayor took a year and a half to terminate the contract with the company awarded the pavilion when the Law allowed him to do so from July 2024”.
“If this is the cause that is motivating the unjustified delay in the continuation of an essential work for the municipality, Óscar Noda would once again demonstrate, as he has been doing throughout the entire term, an absolute contempt for the citizens of Yaiza and that the only thing that truly matters to him is his political future,” adds Emilio Machín.
On the other hand, in the motion presented, it is requested that Óscar Noda report in the requested extraordinary plenary session on the administrative, urban planning and technical situation of the Sandos Papagayo hotel, as well as the works that are being executed, the authorizations granted, the existing technical reports and the control and monitoring actions carried out by the City Council.
