The Lanzarote and La Graciosa Island Council reminds that the deadline for submitting suggestions to the Special Plan for the Protected Landscape (PEPP) of La Geria will remain open until next September 25, and encourages people and sectors linked to this space to consult the documentation and submit their contributions.
The president of the Island Council, Oswaldo Betancort, points out that “we want farmers, winegrowers, winemakers, owners, and residents to take advantage of this period to participate. We are organizing a fundamental space for Lanzarote and the contributions of those who know and work this territory are important to advance in a document adjusted to its reality”.
For his part, the Minister of Territorial Policy and Spatial Planning, Jesús Machín, recalls that “the deadline remains open until September 25 and there is still time to study the document and submit suggestions. We want this process to count on the participation of farmers, winemakers, residents, and groups linked to La Geria”.
The Special Plan establishes different levels of protection and planning with the aim of preserving the volcanic landscape and guaranteeing the continuity of traditional agricultural activity. Among them is the Traditional Use Zone, which exceeds 2,877 hectares and concentrates practically all of La Geria's agricultural and winegrowing activity.
