The Secretary of Organization of Podemos Canarias, César Merino, announced this Thursday, June 1, through his Twitter account, his resignation after the electoral debacle suffered by the purple party this 28M, which has led him to leave the Parliament of the Canary Islands and numerous local institutions of the archipelago.
"You have to be generous in victory and brave in defeat. I have tried to be consistent throughout my life and this was not going to be less. A electoral defeat does not define us", said the until now leader of Podemos in the Canary Islands.
The electoral confluence Unidas Sí Se Puede, formed by Podemos, Izquierda Unida Canaria and Sí Se Puede, did not get a single deputy in the recent regional elections, which has meant the disappearance of the purple ones from the parliamentary arc, where they had four representatives, which have served to support the acting Canarian Government presided over by the socialist Ángel Víctor Torres.
They have also not obtained representation in the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, where they had two councillors, and have seen their presence in the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria reduced to the minimum expression, one councillor, where they have governed for the last eight years together with the PSOE and Nueva Canarias.
